The Moomin Decoration Tree is a beautiful 13-piece ceramic wall decoration
The Moomin Decoration Tree is a set of 13 ceramic wall tiles released gradually between 2014 and 2016. Together, the tiles form a beautiful and cohesive decorative piece designed to be displayed on a wall. Each tile features a familiar Moomin character sitting on a branch of the tree, but the individual tiles also work beautifully on their own, for example displayed on a shelf.
The original idea based on a drawing by Tove Jansson
The design of this ceramic Moomin Decoration Tree, manufactured by Arabia, is based on a drawing Tove Jansson originally created for a bank advertisement. In the original drawing, Moomintroll is sitting in the tree. Inspired by it, designer Tove Slotte created a larger composition featuring Moomintroll together with a dozen other familiar characters from Moominvalley perched on the branches of the tree.

The first wall tiles, packaged in attractive cardboard boxes, were released in 2014, while the final three tiles appeared in autumn 2016. These last tiles were available for just over a year, which has made them more sought-after among collectors than many of the other Decoration Tree tiles.
Three different sizes
The Moomin Decoration Tree tiles were produced in three different sizes. When the complete 13-piece tree is measured from its outermost edges, its overall dimensions are approximately:

The tiles are no longer sold in shops, but they occasionally appear on online marketplaces, at auctions and in specialist Moomin shops. You may also come across Decoration Tree tiles at flea markets.
